Kids need to undergo routine care to help strengthen teeth and gums, so they avoid issues like tooth decay and gingivitis. With children’s dentistry, we can help protect little smiles of all ages from cavities! In today’s blog, your team at Delightful Dental Care talks about children’s dentistry in Kansas City, MO.
Our Exams and Cleanings for Kids
We want to see kids for routine care every six months, just as do for the grown-ups in our community! With a checkup, we can look at their teeth and gums with advanced imaging technology to make a diagnosis with precision and accuracy. We then create a treatment plan to address any issues we uncover, such as a filling to treat a cavity. In the same visit, we will also conduct a cleaning that gently and thoroughly removes all the plaque and tartar from the teeth, a process that lowers the risk of tooth decay and infection, and also fights bad breath and prevents teeth stains.
Dental Sealants
Even if kids brush and floss daily, they may have trouble reaching the rear teeth. Tooth decay can form in these areas and increase the risk of infection and even premature tooth loss, causing discomfort as well. But with dental sealants, we can coat these rear teeth in a thin layer of acrylic, which prevents food and drink particles from being stuck where kids have trouble reaching. Applying this only takes a few seconds and then kids just need to avoid food and drink for about a half-hour as the material cures. Once in place, this can protect the molars for years to come!
Fluoride
We have another preventive treatment to help fight tooth decay in little smiles too. Once we complete your child’s exam and cleaning, we can apply a special fluoride varnish to the outside of the teeth, which then strengthens the outer enamel to make cavities less likely to form. We also recommend kids use a tiny bit of fluoride toothpaste when they brush for the same reason! This helps prevent cavities, and takes seconds to apply and about 30 minutes to fully cure.
Fillings
If your little one does develop a cavity, we can help with a dental filling. Made from a safe and biocompatible composite resin, this can also be shaded to blend with your child’s smile. Placement only takes one visit and instantly stops pain, which also prevents infection. If you have any questions about children’s dentistry, then contact our team today to learn more.
