When a tooth is chipped and cracked, or you have a cavity or infection, or even a lost tooth, you need treatment. In fact, you need restorative dentistry to return your smile to optimal health, function, and beauty. In today’s blog, your Kansas City, MO, dentist talks about how we can help save your smile with restorative dentistry, so you can enjoy results that help the health and function of your smile but also provide results that blend with your smile too.
Dental Fillings
One key component of restorative dentistry is the dental filling. We use this to treat cavities and protect your smile from the onset of infection. Made from a metal-free composite resin, these can be shaded to blend with your smile, and are safer for patients of all ages. Placement only takes one visit and we can use the same material in our dental bonding procedures, in which we mask common cosmetic imperfections and repair minor damage in a tooth.
Same-Day Crowns
With restorative dentistry, we can also provide same-day crowns that look natural. Made from ceramic, which we shade to blend with your smile, these crowns can repair damage, address advanced decay, and offer improvement for the balance of our bites. With CAD/CAM technology, our team can create and place them in only one visit, so you leave with our office with a restored smile, no need to require two or three visits to complete your new restoration.
Root Canal Therapy
We’ve talked about how we address tooth decay with restorative dentistry, but what about an infected tooth? With root canal therapy, we can save a tooth and offer optimal results in a visit. The process involves numbing the tooth so we can completely remove the infected tissues from the tooth. We then add a unique filling to the interior of the tooth and cap it with one of our lifelike same-day crowns. This stops infection, brings relief from discomfort, and prevents the loss of your tooth.
Dental Bridges
If you do lose a tooth, then we can help with a dental bridge. The prosthetic is custom-made from materials like ceramic, so it can blend with your smile. The bridge contains new teeth with crowns attached to each end. We then place the crown portions of the abutment teeth, the ones on each side of the gap in your smile. A bridge can stay in place for up to 10 to 15 years in some cases, so you enjoy lifelike and quality tooth replacement.
Tooth Extractions
When we can’t save a tooth with a dental crown or root canal, then we may need to extract it to prevent infection from spreading to other parts of your smile. We could also take out wisdom teeth before they erupt to avoid impaction, or remove the last few teeth to prepare the smile for dentures. The procedure is done comfortably and gently, and we use anesthesia and sedation to keep you comfortable. For some, the procedure could take as little as 30 minutes to complete!
Dentures
If you have lost between one and three teeth in a row, then a bridge can handle this gap. But if you have multiple gaps spread out across your smile, then you need a partial set of dentures. If you have lost most or all of your teeth, then you need a full set of dentures. Each option we provide will be custom-made, containing new teeth set in an acrylic base that mimics the appearance of gum tissues. With a partial denture, clasps hold the denture in place. With a full, suction or adhesive will keep the new teeth in place. Both last about 5 to 10 years on average, and need replacement as the jaw ridge changes shape. We can discuss cleaning and soaking to keep them in good shape and ensure they can last.
