Dental Sedation and Advanced Technology
The amenities that help make your visit to our office more relaxing are only the beginning of our investment in patient comfort. During your treatment, we may also suggest an appropriate level of dental sedation, such as nitrous oxide (laughing gas), to help make you even more calm and relaxed. Nitrous oxide comes in the form of a gas that you inhale through a small mask over your nose, then immediately exhale through your mouth. The sedative is mild but effective, and is generally safe for patients of all ages.
Occasionally, during your routine checkup and cleaning appointment, we may take X-rays to ensure that your dental records are updated and so that we can track any changes in your dental health. X-rays are also necessary when diagnosing dental conditions and/or planning certain treatment options. Digital X-rays capture clear, high-resolution images faster, more comfortably, and with up to 90% less radiation than traditional X-rays. The digital images are produced almost immediately, and we can view them together on your chairside monitor.
Digital imaging isn’t just reserved for X-ray images. Using a digital intraoral camera, which is a small camera attached to a long, thin wand, we can also view hard-to-see areas of your mouth during a comprehensive examination. The images from the camera can be projected onto the digital chairside monitor, allowing us to see in real time the areas of your teeth, gums, and oral tissues that we can’t see clearly on our own. This significantly improves the precision and accuracy of your examination and diagnosis.
CBCT stands for cone-beam computed tomography, and includes the use of X-rays that diverge into a cone. The resulting images create a detailed, highly accurate 3D model of your teeth and oral structures, which allows for more precise examination, diagnoses, and planning for a wide variety of dental health concerns and treatment plans. As with single digital X-rays, CBCT scanning is convenient and safe for most patients of all ages.
CEREC, or chairside economical restoration of esthetic ceramics, is a system that allows us to design, create, and place highly lifelike porcelain restorations in just one day. Options such as porcelain veneers and dental crowns traditionally take weeks to craft, as the measurements are sent to a trusted dental lab where the restoration is created. By contrast, CEREC localizes the entire process, allowing us to complete every stage of your restoration in-house and during a single visit.
For maximum comfort, we often utilize a soft-tissue laser for procedures that involve trimming or reshaping your soft periodontal tissues (gums). That may include treatments such as cosmetic gum contouring and some forms of periodontal care, depending on your specific needs. By utilizing the specially calibrated laser instead of a traditional scalpel, we can significantly increase your comfort, minimize healing time, and enhance the results of your treatment.
